family-day

Family Day in Whistler is one of the biggest days of the year as families from all over the Lower Mainland (and the world) head to the mountain for a fun-filled day of action and adventure. Spending quality time outdoors is a past-time I’ve always cherished with my family and it is what drives many people to come to Whistler for a visit, and stay for a lifetime. If you’re planning a visit to Whistler for Family Day this year, make sure to check out the wonderful events and activities happening throughout the town.

To start the day off…

Every Family Day Whistler Blackcomb offers a deal that’s hard to refuse- 50% off lift tickets for BC residents. This is what draws many people to the mountain-town on Family Day. Half price lift tickets for the entire family is a great way to celebrate with loved ones. Family Day is the perfect time to get the kids skiing or riding for the first time. While on the mountain don’t forget to check out the Nintendo gaming lounges at the Wizard Grill, Rendezvous or Roundhouse.

Don’t feel like skiing or snowboarding? The Adventure Group in Whistler is offering 50% off their action-packed activities for BC Residents on Family Day. Choose from a kid-friendly snowmobile tour where the kids can navigate their own snowmobile, a scenic snowshoe tour on Whistler Mountain, or an adrenaline infused zip-lining experience soaring 600ft above the forest floor.

Another option is to head to the Callaghan Valley where kids can spend the day tobogganing or base-boarding and the adults can try a fat bike. Why not rent cross country skis and venture into the trails. You can rent Chariot attachments for the little ones, and tickets for the whole family are 50% off.

In the afternoon…

As your action-packed day begins to wind down why not head to Olympic Plaza for a family après session. Grab a pair of ice skates and glide around on the outdoor rink. Enjoy the outdoor entertainment, music and hot chocolate.

If you’re not ready to slow down the pace head to the Coca Cola Tube Park. With seven lanes to choose from in varying difficulties, kids of all ages will entertain themselves for hours (and the adults will too.)

To end the day off…

Make sure to check out one of Whistler’s amazing family-friendly restaurants. Bring the kids along to the GLC, Merlin’s or Dusty’s for a kid-friendly adult’s après (kids welcome until 10pm). After dinner grab a move at the Village 8 Cinemas, try Whistler’s newest attraction the Escape Room, or simply hit the sack and rest the body after a long day of adventurous fun.

As you can see, there is plenty to do to keep the family busy in Whistler during Family Day. For the lucky locals that call Whistler home, this isn’t much different than a regular weekend. You may find that after creating so many wonderful memories in Whistler you may want to extend your stay- permanently.
