This Week’s Real Estate Market Update for Whistler & Pemberton

It is an odd feeling not hearing the helicopters or planes in the air, seeing very little traffic on the roads and of course, few shops and hotels are open. Closing our beautiful resort and not going skiing, to the parks, the gyms, the restaurants, and dinner parties with our friends is what we all must do for now.  We continue to support local businesses that are open.  I was lucky last week to have been able to XC ski on Alta Lake 5 days.  There were only 3 of us practicing physical distancing while skating and then sat in our lawn chairs, 6 ft apart, soaking up the views and the sun.  For the most part, people are staying in or near their homes and there are very few people wandering around in the village.  The weather has been gorgeous here, except for one little Spring snowstorm. I normally say, come up to Whistler and have some fun, but now we have to say, please stay home and stay healthy.

The real estate update this week shows 22 new listings for Whistler.  These listings have been in the listing process for several weeks prior to the COVID-19 outbreak and Whistler shutting down.  The 9 sales have also been in the process of due diligence, building inspections etc. for the past couple of weeks.  So, these numbers are not really indicative of the actual transactions that have been initiated in the last week, they are the product of the process that are firm this week.  We will see some buyers who will take advantage of the lower interest rates which are being offered through most banks.  We expect to see a change in the market in the next couple of weeks and there may be fewer listings as sellers hang tight for busier days.  The internet offers great options for viewing properties online and many listings will have virtual tours so you can walk yourself through the home.
