Greetings from Whistler and Pemberton,
I was sitting at Steeps Restaurant enjoying a delicious lunch after a fabulous morning of skiing in the sunshine and all of a sudden there was a hush and then a few voices saying “Oh No”. The Text’s were dinging, with the news, another big set back for Whistler and Blackcomb. As of yesterday Dr. Bonnie Henry announced both mountains are closed for skiing and boarding until April 19th. This is devastating news for Whistler just as everyone was enjoying the spring conditions and the beautiful weather. Not only that, so many people have lost their jobs and still have to pay their rent until the end of April. The mountains are majestic and still today, we are saddened by this for so many reasons. There is still lots to do here in the mountains, you just need to check on activities available if you have bookings. We know this is necessary to stop the spread of Covid 19, it’s just so disappointing.
The real estate market is forging ahead like a steam engine. It is hard to say how things are going to go for the rest of Spring Break due to the Mountains and Restaurants closing, but my thoughts are the real estate market will remain strong. Our hope is that our inventory will increase as it usually does in April and May and that will give more choices for the buyers. This may soften up the prices too. This past week we have 3 huge sales in Whistler, $7.8 ml, $12.6 ml, and a $14 million dollar sale, that is pretty amazing to see.
